I’m setting up an LPWA using 3 different generations of Intel MCUs for IoT. The transceiver communicates through SPI interface with the stack running on the MCU.

Each node, depending on its MCU, offers various capabilities and inter-connectivity. The most interesting board is the Arduino 101 (Genuino 101 in Europe) based on Intel Curie module, which was announced recently. Setting up SPI on 101 board is fairly straightforward, whereas It’s taken me a while to tweak the SPI on Yocto Linux. The important lesson is to only connect the SPI lines to the Arduino interface and keep all the other GPIOs free on at the initialization.
